For the 2007 season, NCGA has extended it's collective bargaining agreement with the Farm Labor Organizing Committee (FLOC). The agreement includes a formal grievance procedure for workers to address any complaints with their grower or NCGA. It also establishes a set of guidelines for how workers are recruited, as well as how they can remain eligible for employment with NCGA in future seasons.
In the previous four years, grievances were few and far between. The number of grievances filed over that time was lower than one percent of the total number of workers employed by the NCGA. Many of the grievances that were filed were because of disagreements over the order in which workers were recruited, and the NCGA's involvement in FLOC's resignation procedure, issues that concerned FLOC more so than most workers. Most issues between workers and their growers or the association are worked out amicably, and when grievances were filed, they were usually dealt with quickly and to the satisfaction of both parties.
A copy of the new collective bargaining agreement that will be effective from February 1 to December 31, 2008 can be viewed here. For questions regarding the NCGA/FLOC agreement contact Dan Farrell, NCGA's union liaison.
